The role of the castle, located on the top of a hill, was to control the nearby border with the Duchy of Naples and the Principality of Capua, as well as control the communication route between the Campanian plain and the Adriatic Sea in Puglia. The donjon remains of the structure, characterized by a cylindrical tower with a truncated cone base and an internal trapezoidal courtyard and two walls.
