The Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul of Santa Lucia di Serino (AV) is located in Piazza Dante, near the Monastery of Santa Maria della Sanità. The mother church of the Irpino town, its construction dates back to 1518 and was originally dedicated to Saint Lucia, while the current dedication is from 1839. The Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul of Santa Lucia di Serino (AV) is located in Piazza Dante, near the Monastery of Santa Maria della Sanità. The mother church of the Irpino town, its construction dates back to 1518 and was originally dedicated to Saint Lucia, while the current dedication is from 1839. On the previously existing structure, which collapsed due to earthquakes in 1631, a new building was built, restored in 1926. Adjacent to the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, stands the new Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, built after the earthquake of 23 November 1980. Of the Church, in particular, we note an artistically worked portal, a tall three-level bell tower and, inside it, paintings by Mari and Ricciardi, the 18th century papier-mâché statues, depicting Saint Lucia and the Madonna del Rosario, and a Pietà by Solimena. Religious symbol of the Luciana community, the Church of Saints Peter and Paul bears witness to a history of salvation and faith still evident in the style of the building and in the preciousness of the works of art present inside. read less
