The church of the Annunziata located in the hamlet of San Biagio in the municipality of Serino (AV), was built in a period ranging from 1508 to 1511. It was built at the foot of Mount Terminio, dedicated to the rising of the divine sun Christ the Lord, with the intent of making it the Mother church of all the churches of Serino. It is located in the center of two other buildings, on the right the ancient hospital of the Pilgrims, on the left the church of the Madonna del Carmine. The interior is characterized by a single central nave and is full of precious works of art, among which, in the center of the ceiling, the painting made at the beginning of the eighteenth century by the painter Don Filippo Pennino from Benevento, depicting the "Blessed Virgin Mary Assumed into Heaven". Of great artistic value, is the high altar, in polychrome marble, a work of the 18th century, which has remained unchanged to this day. Since there were no parish or municipal cemeteries in Serino, the deceased were buried in mass graves, built under the floor of the Church. The location of the burial pits is still visible today because the 14 stone openings through which the deceased were lowered into them have been preserved in the new floor built after the 1980 earthquake. read less
