On the previously existing structure, which collapsed due to earthquakes in 1631, a new building was built, restored in 1926. Adjacent to the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, stands the new Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, built after the earthquake of 23 November 1980. Of the Church, in particular, we note an artistically worked portal, a tall three-level bell tower and, inside it, paintings by Mari and Ricciardi, the 18th century papier-mâché statues, depicting Saint Lucia and the Madonna del Rosario, and a Pietà by Solimena. A religious symbol of the Lucian community, the Church of Saints Peter and Paul bears witness to a history of salvation and faith that is still evident in the style of the building and in the preciousness of the works of art inside. read less
