Immersed in the Bosco di Serino, in the Ogliara area, on a small plateau bordered by the Sabato river, there is a wall with a circumference of about 2 kilometers, known as "Civita di Ogliara". According to tradition, it is that of the mythical Sabatia, city of the Hirpini, whose population was forced to flee due to its destruction, giving rise to Serino, Solofra, Montoro and Montella. Little is known about its history, in fact some authors say that "Sabatia" was destroyed by Hannibal during the Second Punic War, others, on the contrary, maintain that it was destroyed by the Romans to punish the Sabatini who had become allies of Hannibal, and still others want it destroyed by Silla at the time of the Social War. More recent investigations, by the University of Salerno, date the walls back to the seventh or eighth century AD. Today, the walls are crumbling in several places, but in some places the walls are still
mighty and tall.
