The former Convent of the Dominican Friars is a historic building and current town hall of Montemiletto, adjacent to the Church of Sant'Anna in via Roma.
Built in the sixteenth century, almost simultaneously with the neighboring religious building, the monastery also bore the name of Sant'Anna. Equipped with about 50-60 small cells, with an annexed School of Theology, the former Convent of the Dominican Friars has a square structure, along which the entire portico develops, adorned with frescoes depicting the life of San Domenico.
The main artistic detail of the structure is represented by the valuable cloister, dating back to the first half of the eighteenth century and which houses, in its central part, a cistern with travertine blocks. To the right of the entrance door was the guesthouse and, facing the entrance, were the library, study and kitchen. A corridor, now closed to the public, connected the monastery directly with the Church of Sant'Anna. Following the law of general suppression of religious orders, carried out hand in hand with the subversion of feudalism in 1806, the monastery and its properties passed to the Municipality of Montemiletto which, still today, has its headquarters on site.
Relevant historical testimony of the Montemiletto community, the Ex Convent of the Dominican Friars rises to the fulcrum of the administrative and cultural life of the Irpinian town. read less
