The Institute of the Conservatory of the Sisters of Purity was founded in 1660 by an ancestor of the Laurenzano family, the noblewoman Delia who later became a nun and first abbess. The noblewoman donated her palace in via Belli to the Conservatory of maidens, a cash bequest and another building. With the contribution of many wealthy families, the convent was built in 1743 and housed poor girls who were taught the trade of seamstress. It has functioned over the decades in the form of Ipab, a public institute for assistance and charity, recognized by royal decree, hosting the nursery school, two sections of elementary schools and the girls' orphanage. In 1943 Leopoldo Cassese chose it to house important documents from the State Archives. Since 1979, assistance to non self-sufficient elderly people has started. In 2004 the institute assumed the transformation of Foundation of the Conservatory of the Sisters of Purity. It is managed by the notary Romana Capaldo. But the decline in vocations and the lack of interest from local authorities have led to a slow decline. read less
