The area in which this geosite is included represents a particularly suggestive place from both a landscape and an anthropological point of view. The geosite lends itself to observations of a geological, geomorphological, geological application and anthropological nature. The dominant geological motif of this geosite is the presence of widespread landslide movements. This process, linked to the natural evolution of the reliefs, is characterized by a variable areal extension depending on the climatic conditions and the type of terrain involved. In some cases, extensive and rapid landslide phenomena have affected densely populated areas with the consequent need to relocate the population. This is the case of the settlement of Roscigno Vecchia. The urban center of Roscigno Vecchia, abandoned at the beginning of the 20th century due to a landslide, is located on an area on the right orographic side of the Ripiti stream, a tributary of the Pietra stream, and preserves intact the almost surreal atmospheres of a typical village of the late 19th century.
