The Elettrocartiera del Sabato stands at the foot of the hill on which the town of Pratola Serra develops, in the province of Avellino. The first traces relating to the factory date back to 1924, the year in which Mr. Vincenzo Ungaretti, coming from Lucca, bought and sold the mill owned by the Acone brothers.
The circumstances that brought Mr. Vincenzo Ungaretti from Lucca to the small town of Pratola Serra are not clear, however his initiative meant that the most prominent men of the town adhered to the proposal by setting up the "Società Anonima Elettrocartiera del Sabato" to manage the company, which was immediately recognized as having considerable importance for the entire community, since it was intended for the "development of motive power and the manufacture of paper" (Avellino District Notary Archive, Notary Pellegrino D'Amore, year 1926 ).
From 1962, the year of nationalization of the electricity companies, the Elettrocartiera also passed to Enel, which still owns the plant.
These and other information relating to the history of the factory are reported in the documents collected in the Avellino District Notarial Archive, in the Avellino State Archive and in the Historical Archive of Enel in Naples. read less
