The building is known for having been the birthplace and home of the canon and man of letters Marciano De Leo (1751-1819), a character known throughout the Ultra Principality, so much so that he received the task of coordinating the work for the official drafting of the "Statistics of the Principality Ultra" commissioned by Gioacchino Murat. From his youth, De Leo was driven by a passion for writing in verse, so much so that he also inspired Giacomo Leopardi in the creation of "La ginestra". His most important work, "The Temple of Wisdom or be the undeceived man", is an intense allegorical journey towards the pursuit of happiness.
Today the ancient building houses the Civic Library, an Archaeological Museum and the "Pina Famiglietti" Civic Art Collection, a private collection of author prints belonging to Angelo Gabbanini, master printer and husband of Mrs. Pina Famiglietti, who died prematurely.
