History

The park rises in the hamlet of heat (of MIRABELLA ECLANO). The whole area is part of the hamlet of the municipality called Calore and is close to the town which was consolidating and expanding between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the last century near the bridge and on the sides of the State Road 90 of Puglia . This part of the municipal territory is clearly identified in the relationship with the Calore river and with the large coastal area that develops from the border with the Municipality of Taurasi (Torre d'Elia locality) to the border with the Municipality of Apice and the Province of Benevento for about 5km. Along this strip of territory the landscape and environmental peculiarities are remarkable and to these are added the monumental archaeological ones, with the nineteenth-century irrigation system characterized by locks and canals, the bridge over the Calore in limestone and tuff masonry with 25 arches, the archaeological area of Ponterotto with the remains of the 2 bridges: the one called “Appiano” and the following one used until the Middle Ages. read less
