In the hamlet of Preturo, the cave of the Archangel Michael, set in the bare rock, on the "Labso" spring, whose specular conformation suggests its existence in prehistoric times. It is considered, by the majority of Montorese historians, as a church existing in 841 and even more so in 995. Formed by two natural rooms, it is a happy synthesis of speleology, history, art and Early Medieval architecture. In it, Easter Monday is celebrated, one of the popular Montorese festivals that preserves the most well fused, archaically, pagan and religious characteristics, characteristic of peasant culture. Very interesting are the Byzantine frescoes, which are found there, a rare example of Early Medieval rock painting, attributable to the work of the monks, who alternately lived in the hermitage. It is a monument that deserves to be known for the beauty that distinguishes it. The view from the terrace in front of the caves and from the one on the lower floor is suggestive. (note from the Circolo Culturale Preturo). The “Labso” railway bridge with concrete and masonry arches, enchanting, a work of high engineering design. During the Mussolini period in 1922, a major redevelopment program of the existing railway network was started throughout Italy in order to improve the rail transport service. The public works were carried out over a decade from 1922 to 1932. The Labso and Laura springs are located on the western edge of the Montoro plain. They flow at the contact between limestone and pyroclastic-alluvial terrain, and represent the basal delivery point of the waters that are collected in the tectonic-karst basin (polje) of Forino from which they receive a significant supply in the winter period. read less
