Forino

It is located about 11 km from the capital city, in a plain surrounded by seven mountains (Faliesi, Esca, Boschitello, Piana, Romola, San Nicola, Poggio Tirone - all less than 1000 meters high). Forino is composed, in addition to the capital, of the hamlets Castello, Celzi and Petruro. In the territory there are numerous coppices, while the most widespread cultivation is that of hazelnut.

History

Sporadic findings in the area show that it was already inhabited in pre-Roman times. Later, the town was part of the Roman colony of Venera Livia Abellinatum, and was characterized by the presence of buildings attributable to Roman villas.
