The Feast of the Pannocchia is an event that takes place annually, between the end of July and the beginning of August, in the hamlet of Calore, located in the municipality of Mirabella Eclano.
Known as the oldest food and wine event in the Valle del Calore, the Sagra della Pannocchia is organized by the Pro Loco La Pannocchia and, in the past, has received the patronage of institutions, organizations and associations of a certain importance, such as the Municipality of Mirabella Eclano, the Province of Avellino, the Campania Region and UNPLI.
The food and wine event offers participants the opportunity to taste different dishes and typical products, among the most authentic and genuine, often associated with excellent local wines such as Taurasi DOCG, Fiano di Avellino DOCG and Greco di Tufo DOCG.
Among the first courses, the cicatielli col pulieio stand out, handmade cavatelli seasoned with tomato sauce and puleggio (herb belonging to the mint family), and fusilli, orecchiette and laine, usually seasoned with meat sauce, vegetables or legumes. Among the main courses, the inevitable meat with peppers is mentioned, a traditional dish that distinguishes many food and wine events in Irpinia.
All this is accompanied, during the Feast of the Pannocchia, by music and popular shows that enliven the hamlet of Calore in a splendid folkloristic setting that is renewed every year in the summer. read less
