The Chestnut Festival of Montella PGI is a food and wine event that takes place in Montella in the autumn.
Among the most anticipated events in Irpinia and which, every year, attract numerous visitors, from Campania and not, the Chestnut Festival of Montella IGP has a long history: its first edition, in fact, dates back to 1977, with the aim of making know the tasty fruit, considered among the best chestnuts produced in Italy. Castagna di Montella, which received the Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC) in 1987 and, nine years later, recognition of Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) by the European Union Commission, is obviously the queen of the Festival, protagonist of several typical dishes of the local gastronomic tradition.
