Roscigno

Roscigno is an Italian municipality of 649 inhabitants in the province of Salerno in Campania. It is part of the Alburni mountain community, the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park and the Diocese of Teggiano-Policastro. Origin of name: The name of the town is a derivation from the dialect term "russignuolo", meaning nightingale. The name of the town from the historical reconstruction derives from Russino which appears in some writings of 1086 (kept at the territorial Abbey of the Holy Trinity of Cava de' Tirreni) when the lord of Corneto (Corleto Monforte) donated the church of S. Venere to the Abbey of Cava.
